Suspected Boko Haram terrorists launched a brutal assault on Jakana Police Station, which is in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State. The ferocious attack resulted in the tragic deaths of a police driver and a woman.
Not stopping at just human lives, the insurgents went on a rampage, setting ablaze two police patrol vehicles and one belonging to the Civilian Joint Task Force. They even torched a motorcycle. In their violent spree, they managed to steal some weapons and ammunition from the scene.
Jakana, a village situated 35 km along the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, has long been a troublesome route, frequently used by insurgents for their nefarious activities.
According to sources in Jakana, the terrorists launched their attack at around 1 am. The police and other security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce battle that lasted several hours. Eventually, the insurgents retreated after about two hours of intense fighting.
The Chairman of the Konduga Council Area, Abbas Ali Abari, confirmed the attack during a phone call. He mentioned that while he had received a distress call about the incident, he was still in the process of gathering detailed information about the casualties.
“I am currently in communication with the Divisional Police Officer, and once I have all the details, I will provide them,” he said. Attempts to contact the state police spokesman, Kenneth Daso, for additional information were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
