Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for the Labour Party (LP) Presidential Campaign Organisation, has voiced his displeasure with the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his handling of party affairs.

Okonkwo, who switched to the LP in 2022, blamed Obi for not addressing the internal turmoil within the party.  As a former actor turned politician, Okonkwo criticized Obi for not doing enough to strengthen the party or resolve its leadership issues.

“Today, every member of the Labour Party is uncertain about the party’s future due to Peter Obi’s lack of leadership,” Okonkwo wrote in a post on X. “When party members ask me about Obi’s position, I have no answers because I don’t know where he stands myself.”

“I cannot continue to represent a leader whose views on important matters are unknown to me. I don’t know how to twist the facts,” Okonkwo continued. “I am shocked that Obi hasn’t openly supported the Labour Unions, which created the Labour Party to advocate for workers’ rights. Some members are even saying that Obi is now a problem for the party.”

The Labour Unions are now in the unfortunate position of fighting off those trying to take over the party, a situation that could have been avoided with a simple statement from Obi. Okonkwo concluded, “I cannot continue with this uncertainty forever.”
