Nigeria’s renewable energy sector, PANA Holdings, a German firm, has announced its intention to establish a manufacturing facility for renewable energy and decarbonization technologies in Nigeria’s Green Industrial Zone, Evergreen City.
This initiative is part of a broader collaboration supported by the German Government, aimed at advancing Nigeria’s green industrial vision under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Chief Ajuri Ngelale, announced the collaboration and emphasized that the journey to realizing this partnership requires substantial groundwork.
The potential establishment of these facilities marks a critical step in Nigeria’s efforts to transition towards sustainable energy and aligns with global climate action goals. Chief Ngelale highlighted the importance of private sector involvement in transforming President Tinubu’s Green Industrial Vision into a tangible reality, which aims to drive economic growth while reducing carbon emissions.
“This collaboration represents a major opportunity for Nigeria to not only advance its renewable energy capabilities but also to lead the way in sustainable industrialization across Africa,” Ngelale stated. “We are committed to turning hope into tangible opportunities for Nigerians, ensuring that our nation can prosper in a sustainable manner.”
The proposed facility in Evergreen City is expected to focus on several cutting-edge technologies that will bolster Nigeria’s industrial and energy sectors:
1. Organic Rankine Cycle Technology (ORCAN): This technology converts unused and waste heat energy from engines and industrial facilities into clean, usable electricity. By harnessing waste heat, Nigeria can significantly enhance its energy efficiency.
2. Multi-Phase Pumping Technology: Designed to reduce gas flaring, this technology will play a crucial role in Nigeria’s efforts to mitigate environmental impacts from the oil and gas sector.
3. Mokveld Zero Emissions Control Valves: These valves aim to substantially reduce fugitive emissions, helping Nigeria meet its environmental targets and improve air quality.
4. Amplified Geochemical Imaging (AGI): This non-conventional exploratory technology assesses the integrity of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) instrumentation, ensuring effective and secure carbon management.
5. Decarbonization of Nigeria’s Electric Power Grid: In partnership with Siemens, this project aims to decarbonize Nigeria’s power grid through a multi-phase approach, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
6. Climate-Smart Agriculture Infrastructure Manufacturing: This initiative will support local supply chains and promote sustainable agriculture practices, including greenhouse farming, to improve food security and environmental sustainability.
7. Continuous Emission Monitoring: Using Infosys platforms, this project will deploy metering solutions and develop comprehensive dashboards for real-time monitoring and evaluation of emissions, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
Chief Ngelale also engaged with various stakeholders to strengthen federal, state, and local coordination in climate action. Discussions with Mrs. Titi Oshodi, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Climate, focused on innovative collaboration modes that could enhance the effectiveness of national green industrial development initiatives. Additionally, meetings with the leadership of the Nigerian Climate Change Council (NCCC) covered current developments, upcoming events, and progress on projects critical to international climate cooperation.
This partnership between Nigeria and PANA Holdings marks a promising advancement in Nigeria’s journey toward sustainable industrialization. By integrating cutting-edge technologies and fostering international collaborations, Nigeria is poised to become a leader in Africa’s renewable energy sector. The successful implementation of these initiatives will not only support economic growth but also contribute significantly to global efforts in combating climate change. As Nigeria takes these bold steps, it sets an example for other nations in the region, demonstrating that sustainable development is achievable through strategic partnerships and innovative approaches. The nation stands at the forefront of a green revolution, with the potential to drive positive change for future generations.
