As the Imo State Local Council Elections approach on September 21, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has notified both the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) of a leadership change within the party.
This shift follows a recent Supreme Court judgment that recognized Edozie Njoku as the rightful National Chairman of APGA. The party believes this change is crucial to ensure a smooth participation in the upcoming local government elections across the 27 councils in the state.
During a press conference held in Owerri, the state capital, the party’s National Delegate, led by National Secretary Muhyideen Imam, emphasized the necessity of this leadership change. Imam highlighted that INEC has updated its records to reflect Chief Edozie Njoku as the legitimate National Chairman, as seen on the commission’s website.
Imam further explained that this national leadership change has cascaded to the state level, with a new 10-man Caretaker Committee led by Chief Vincent Amadi now recognized as the party’s executive in Imo State. He urged party members, particularly those planning to contest in the September 21 elections, to align with Chief Vincent Amadi’s leadership and disregard the faction led by Bar. John Iwuala.
Aspirants who have obtained nomination and expression of interest forms from the previous executive are advised to visit the new state secretariat at No. 144 Wetheral Road, Owerri, to regularize and revalidate their forms to avoid disqualification.

In his remarks, the party’s National Vice Chairman, South East, Hon. Tony Uchechukwudi Ezekwelu, assured members that the party is committed to accommodating all members to ensure a successful performance in the local government elections and beyond.
Additionally, the party has reached out to the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Security Service (DSS), and the Imo State Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC), requesting them to acknowledge Edozie Njoku as the party’s nationally approved leader.
