In a significant breakthrough, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended a woman this morning for attempting to smuggle hard drugs hidden in baby food packages.
The arrest took place at a major bus terminal in Lagos, following a tip-off from vigilant citizens.
The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mary Chika, was found with several kilograms of a powdered substance, later confirmed to be cocaine, ingeniously concealed within sealed baby food containers. NDLEA operatives, acting on intelligence, intercepted her as she was about to board a bus bound for a neighbouring state.
According to the NDLEA spokesperson, the woman had been under surveillance for some time due to her suspicious activities. “We received credible information about her operations and have been monitoring her movements closely. Today’s arrest is a testament to the agency’s commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Nigeria,” he stated.
The suspect has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing further interrogation. Preliminary investigations suggest that she may be part of a larger drug trafficking syndicate operating within and beyond Lagos.
Residents have praised the NDLEA for their swift action, expressing relief that such dangerous substances were prevented from reaching the streets. The agency has reiterated its appeal to the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
