Ado Doguwa, the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), has called on former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to cease his disrespectful remarks towards leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Doguwa expressed his concerns in a statement he released on Sunday, asserting that Kwankwaso, who is also the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has become a notorious figure for insults, particularly in light of comments made by Rep Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa (NNPP, Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency) regarding the former governor.
“As a practicing Muslim with a strong moral foundation, I have always held respect for Kwankwaso, despite our history as colleagues in the House of Representatives during the 3rd Republic,” Doguwa stated.
He characterized Rep Jibrin as lacking historical awareness, noting that his educational experience in the 1990s would not have granted him insight into Doguwa’s own political journey, which began with his election victory in 1992, similar to Kwankwaso’s rise.
“Hon. Jibrin cannot be compared to me in terms of legislative experience, as I have been serving in the House long before he completed his studies. Therefore, I expect him to show me the same respect he desires for his political mentor, Kwankwaso,” Doguwa continued.
He urged Jibrin to remain distant from his political disputes with Kwankwaso, recognizing the latter’s significant political roles and expressing admiration for him as a leader, even within Doguwa’s own state.
Nevertheless, Doguwa emphasized that Kwankwaso should reconsider his current pattern of verbally attacking and belittling prominent APC figures, including negative remarks aimed at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and unfair accusations against the APC government.
Doguwa concluded by asserting the importance of respectful political discourse, urging Kwankwaso to abandon his derogatory comments towards Nigeria’s national leaders.
