James Odedeji, the Grand Patron of the society, and Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, emphasized the importance of pursuing peace and justice in all aspects of life.

In her keynote address titled, ‘Christians and the Struggle for Peace and Justice in Nigeria,’ Prof. Ogunsola urged the religious community to take the lead in promoting harmony and justice. She stressed that fostering peace through interfaith dialogue is essential, highlighting the need for love, humility, and managing anger as key elements for cultivating a peaceful mindset.

Additionally, she suggested that advocating for justice and fairness, addressing corruption, inequality, and human rights violations are crucial steps in resolving disputes and conflicts across the nation. Prof. Ogunsola also recommended that church leaders engage in providing social services such as education, healthcare, and vocational training to alleviate poverty and empower individuals economically. Moreover, she underscored the significance of promoting values of non-violence, reconciliation, and forgiveness through community programs and initiatives.

Instead of protests, he emphasized the importance of engaging in dialogue and friendship, suggesting that protests could be counter-productive and prone to being hijacked by unruly elements. He highlighted the need to avoid inflicting more pain on the country and encouraged dialogue with the government for societal improvement.
