Ruth Usoro, a talented athlete from Akwa Ibom, has qualified for the women’s long jump final at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

A two-time NCAA division one triple jump champion and reigning All-African Games Champion, Usoro has also finished as a finalist at the 2022 World Championships.

Born in Utu Edem Usung, Ikot Ekpene LGA, and raised in Lagos, Ruth’s passion for sports was inspired by her father, a soccer enthusiast.

Her journey to the Olympics began with a remarkable jump at the Jarvis Scott Open, where she leaped 6.87 meters, surpassing the Olympic qualifying standard.

This achievement marks her debut Olympic Games appearance, following a missed opportunity in 2020. Ruth aims to win an Olympic medal and believes in the potential of the Nigerian team to achieve greatness.

Ruth’s path to success was facilitated by Olympic medalist Mary Onyali-Omagbemi, who helped her secure opportunities in the USA. She earned degrees in Communication Studies and Mass Communication from Texas Tech University, where she honed her skills.

Despite facing setbacks, including a disappointing performance in Boston and eligibility issues at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Ruth found solace in her faith and supportive network. Her remarkable Olympic qualification process was guided by divine intervention, which she believes played a crucial role in her journey.

As Ruth Usoro sets her sights on the Paris Olympics final, her story of resilience, determination, and faith continues to inspire many. With her unwavering focus, she aims to bring home an Olympic medal for Nigeria.
