The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has strongly denounced the recent aggressive raid on the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) headquarters by security personnel.

In a statement released on Thursday, signed by Deputy National Publicity Secretary James Ezema, the CNPP characterized the incident as a “Gestapo-style operation,” highlighting it as a serious violation of democratic principles and the rule of law.

The organization called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rein in the security agencies involved in this troubling episode.

“It is shocking that such an event transpired under the leadership of President Tinubu, who emerged from a history of opposition and has long positioned himself as a champion of democracy,” the statement asserted.

The CNPP demanded that President Tinubu take immediate action against the security forces that are allegedly transforming Nigeria into a police state, targeting dissenting voices and detaining them in an alarming manner reminiscent of oppressive military regimes.

The organization clarified that they do not advocate for violent protests or the dissemination of inflammatory materials, but they condemned the efforts to silence and intimidate citizens into compliance.

They warned that this heavy-handed approach could lead to increased chaos and further animosity towards the Tinubu administration from the populace.

As the adage goes, “a hungry man is an angry man.” The CNPP cautioned that if the Tinubu administration neglects the reality of its origins from the struggles of the opposition, it could have dire consequences for the economy, especially if security forces continue to suppress citizens’ voices through their current tactics.

In conclusion, the organization urged President Tinubu to uphold the rights of citizens, including those of the NLC, while prioritizing solutions to the pressing economic and security issues facing the country.
