The Niger State Police Command recently paraded 23 suspected hoodlums accused of exploiting recent protests to wreak havoc by vandalizing the Tafa Local Government Secretariat.

According to Commissioner of Police Shawulu Danmamman, who presented the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Minna, they will soon face charges in court. The police were also able to recover some of the stolen items that had been looted from the secretariat during the unrest.

In addition to these arrests, the Commissioner of Police showcased some of the other significant recoveries made by the command during this period. Among these were 15 Pump Action Rifles, which were seized from suspected gun runners.

The rifles were discovered after the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a red Toyota Corolla with the registration number DKA 877 HJ. The vehicle was stopped along the infamous Maikunkele-Tegina road, a route known for its criminal activities in Niger State.

We In a separate development, the police command made an arrest in a chilling case of homicide. The case began when a report was lodged at the Kpakungu Division concerning the disappearance of 65-year-old Abubakar Adawa from the Barkin-Sale area of Minna.

Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), visited the residence of the missing man. During their visit, they invited two family members, Mizanmil Abubakar, the 29-year-old son of the victim, and Aisha Abubakar, the victim’s wife, for questioning.

As the investigation progressed, a thorough search of the premises was conducted. To the shock of the investigating officers, the severed body of the missing man was discovered buried in a shallow grave within the compound. Mizanmil eventually confessed to committing the heinous crime.

He admitted to poisoning his father’s food with rodenticide before dismembering the body and burying it. When questioned about his motive, Mizanmil revealed that he had harbored deep-seated hatred for his father, which ultimately drove him to commit the murder.

This gruesome act has sent shockwaves through the community, with many struggling to comprehend the motive behind such a brutal crime. The suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Upon the conclusion of the investigation, Mizanmil will be prosecuted for the crime.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts of the Niger State Police Command to tackle crime in the region, ranging from violent protests and vandalism to more sinister acts like gun running and homicide. The command’s swift response and successful recoveries underscore their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
