Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has announced the allocation of 100 hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the construction of a Forward Operating Base in the state.
The governor made this known during a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, at his office in Abuja on Friday.
The proposed Forward Operating Base will be located in the Ogun Waterside Local Government Area and is intended to enhance security for key investments in the region, as well as safeguard Nigeria’s sovereignty over Tongeji Island.
“Ogun State has maintained a strong and productive relationship with the nation’s security forces and has been recognized as one of the most secure and peaceful states in Nigeria,” Governor Abiodun said.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen this relationship, Ogun State is allocating 100 hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the establishment of a Forward Operating Base in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
This facility will include a naval dockyard and base, providing security for investments such as the proposed OK LNG project led by NNPC Limited and the Olokola Deep Sea Port. It will also play a critical role in protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty at Tongeji Island in Ipokia Local Government Area, and in supporting NNPC’s oil exploration efforts in the state,” he added.
In response, Vice Admiral Ogalla expressed his appreciation to the governor for the land allocation, stating that although the project was initiated by his predecessor, he fully supports it due to its significance. He assured that construction would commence promptly, as the project is included in the 2024 budget.
