Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for the upcoming Ondo State gubernatorial election, was reportedly arrested on Saturday in Akure by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force. Ajayi, a key member of the Take It Back Movement, was taken into custody during a one-million-man protest against rising hunger and hardship in the state.
According to the Take It Back Movement, Ajayi was arrested alongside fellow activist Patrick Owolabi. The human rights advocacy group announced the arrest on its official X handle, strongly condemning the police’s actions and calling for the immediate release of both individuals.
In their post, the organization stated, “It’s unfortunate that the @PoliceNG is yet to learn. The continued clampdown on peaceful #EndBadGovernceInNigeria protesters is a total shame. We condemn the unlawful arrest of Ajayi Wizeman & Patrick Owolabi in Ondo State and we demand their immediate and unconditional release!”
