The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has strongly denounced the recent bombing of the Action Peoples Party (APP) secretariat in Rivers State, calling for immediate action from President Bola Tinubu to bring those responsible to justice.

In a statement issued by IPAC’s National Publicity Secretary, Mrs. Chinyere Kalu, the Council expressed deep concern over the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Monday.

“This heinous act has not only caused panic and terrorized peaceful residents but also threatened the fragile political stability of our nation,” IPAC stated.

As the umbrella organization for all political parties in Nigeria, IPAC voiced alarm over the growing trend of political violence and terrorism.

“We urge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take swift and decisive action to address this menace, which poses a significant threat to our democratic values and national security. The bombing of APP’s Secretariat is a brazen attack on democracy, the rule of law, and the very fabric of our society,” the statement read.

IPAC warned that this act of terrorism serves as a stark reminder of how political extremism can undermine Nigeria’s two and a half decades of unbroken democracy. The Council suggested that the bombing might be linked to desperate politicians unwilling to tolerate alternative viewpoints or vibrant opposition in the state.

“These reactionary elements should allow democracy to strive in the state and should not see politics as a do or die venture.

“IPAC warns that any form of terrorism in the federation can be exploited by criminal elements to further their ill-conceived agenda. Therefore, we implore President Tinubu to direct security agencies to:

“Conduct a thorough investigation into the bombing; Identify and prosecute the perpetrators; Take proactive measures to prevent future attacks,” the statement added.

The Council further called on “all political parties, stakeholders, and Nigerians to: condemn this act of violence; promote peace, unity, and democratic values; support the government’s efforts to combat political extremism and terrorism”.
