Two of the three domestic staff employed by Mrs. Olakunbi Adene, who was tragically murdered in Akure, Ondo State last week, have confessed to the crime following their arrest.
According to reports, the two suspects were apprehended in Akure and Idanre after the Ondo State Police Command traced the victim’s two Android phones to their locations.
A police source revealed that the driver of the deceased fled after his wife answered a call from Mrs. Adene’s phone.
The source disclosed that three individuals were involved in the murder, which took place after Mrs. Adene prepared a special meal to celebrate her 54th birthday.
The suspects admitted, “After enjoying the meal she prepared for us, we attacked and killed her.” They described how they strangled her and used a cutlass to sever her head, despite her pleas for mercy.
According to the suspects, the noise from a generator masked the commotion, preventing neighbors from hearing the attack. They further disclosed that they ripped open her stomach, exposing her intestines.
The suspects attempted to cover up their crime by setting fire to the house. They had hoped to stage it as a gas explosion by emptying a gas cylinder, but it failed to ignite initially. Despite their efforts, the cylinder eventually exploded, causing further damage.
The suspects then stole Mrs. Adene’s ATM cards and two Android phones before fleeing the scene. They had intended to destroy the entire house to make it appear as though the fire was caused by the gas explosion.
Mrs. Adene’s younger brother, Adebola Oyeneye, reported that he took the body to the mortuary and confirmed that part of her stomach was burnt.
The police are still searching for the third suspect involved in the crime.
