The Niger State Government has expressed appreciation to all its stakeholders and residents for opting out of the recent nationwide protests against the Federal Government, which centered around hunger and economic struggles.

In a radio address on Monday from Minna, the State capital, Acting Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba shared the government’s sentiments regarding the protests that took place on August 1, 2024. He highlighted that the commitment of the state’s citizens is pivotal to its progress.

Garba remarked, “Your dedication to unity, respect for one another, and constructive dialogue is truly admirable. It embodies our shared commitment to advancing the development of Niger State.” He emphasized that open communication and understanding are vital for resolving conflicts and fostering growth.

The acting governor also expressed gratitude to the Commissioner of Police, heads of security agencies, and the vigilante groups, as well as traditional and religious leaders, labor unions, the National Youth Council, and student organizations for their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the communities during this tumultuous time.

“Your efforts have been crucial in sustaining the collective determination of our citizens,” he stated.

Furthermore, he extended his sincere appreciation to the media and journalists in Niger State, acknowledging their relentless efforts in promoting government initiatives, which have significantly contributed to the state’s growth trajectory.

Garba reiterated the government’s readiness to communicate the concerns and aspirations of the state’s residents to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assuring them that their voices will be heard and represented at the national level.

“We will actively engage with the Federal Government to tackle the pressing challenges our state and country face,” the acting governor affirmed.

However, he condemned the violence that erupted during the protests in Tafa Local Government Area, resulting in property damage, despite an earlier town hall meeting where stakeholders reached a consensus to avoid participating in the nationwide demonstrations.
