Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to meeting the expectations of the people, despite ongoing political distractions.

He emphasised that his administration remains focused on delivering quality infrastructure and essential social amenities to improve the lives of Rivers residents.

The governor expressed his determination to fulfill the mandate given by over 8 million Rivers people, assuring that his government would stay on course to justify their support. His remarks came during the swearing-in of five new commissioners and two special advisers at the Executive Council Chambers in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

The newly appointed commissioners are Hon. Ilamu Arugu (Abua/Odual); Dr. Roland Obed-Whyte (Degema); Sir Austin Emeka Nnadozie (Etche);

Hon. Samuel Eyiba (Ahoada West); and Hon. Samuel Anya (Abia State). The two special advisers sworn in are Barrister Forgive Amachree (Ahoada-West) and Mr. Achor Nna (Obio-Akpor). Portfolios for the new appointees have yet to be assigned.

Governor Fubara stated, “Governance is our priority, not politics. When the time for politics comes, we will address it. For now, we are focused on working for the people, ensuring their happiness and well-being. The people of Rivers State will judge us by our results, not by court rulings or protests.”

He called on the new appointees to serve as ambassadors, not just for the administration but also for their communities. He emphasized the importance of maintaining integrity and defending the state’s interests, while avoiding actions that could hinder governance.

“You are here to contribute positively. This is not a platform to engage in criticism or to attack others. Our detractors aim to distract us, but we must stay focused on our goals,” Governor Fubara cautioned.

The governor also addressed Dr. Samuel Anya, the Abia-born commissioner representing non-indigenes, urging him to be inclusive and represent all non-indigenous communities—whether from the West, East, North, or minority groups—equally. “Your role is to ensure that non-indigenes feel included and valued. We need their continued support,” he added.

Governor Fubara concluded by thanking his team for their unwavering support, promising to continue making Rivers State proud and ensuring that the trust placed in his administration is not in vain.
