Controversial reality TV star Josephine Ijeoma Otabor, widely known as Phyna, has expressed concerns over the participation of Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican descent, in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant. Adetshina had recently withdrawn from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest following intense scrutiny of her nationality.
Despite being a Top 11 finalist in the Miss South Africa pageant, Adetshina was compelled to exit the competition. She later accepted an invitation to compete in the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant, announcing her decision in a video shared by the organizers on Wednesday.
Phyna, reacting to this development on her X (formerly Twitter) account, suggested that Adetshina’s inclusion might hinder the chances of “typical Nigerian queens” who have been preparing for the competition.

She wrote, “Just thinking out loud oh. I’m in support of Chidima o, but this one she now wants to rep us like this…. What will now happen to our own typical Nigerian Queens that have been preparing for it too, Omo I for advise her to leave pageant first or for this year… then go next tym.”
Phyna’s comments sparked backlash online, with many criticizing her stance on the matter.
