The recent Local Government Congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has been hailed as a shining example of democratic integrity, held in a manner that was both free and credible.
Chief Solomon Agwana, the Chairman of the State Party, reflected on the event, noting how it successfully took place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, despite earlier skepticism fueled by the #EndBadGovernance and Hunger protests.
Speaking to reporters at the Party Secretariat located on Isaac Boro Way in Yenagoa, Agwana emphasized that the congress adhered to fundamental democratic principles, ensuring a peaceful and successful process throughout the state.
He assured that if any party members had concerns about the proceedings, an appeal panel was established and ready to address any disputes that might arise.
Agwana reiterated, “Bayelsa is firmly a PDP state, and we are committed to maintaining that status. Our leadership is dedicated to upholding democratic values to prevent any loss of trust from our members and the wider community.”
In a similar vein, Hon. Leilei Tariye, the Executive Chairman of the Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area, praised party members for their unwavering support and maturity during the congress held at the Council Secretariat in Kaiama.
He stressed that local government leaders are committed to fulfilling the democratic aspirations of the people. Tariye urged the newly elected local government executive committee to be dedicated to the party’s mission and the administration in Creek Haven. He also called for their actions, both in political settings and beyond, to reflect the PDP’s core values of fairness and justice.
