In a significant turn of events, Chidimma Adetshina, the former Miss South Africa contestant at the center of a heated nationality debate, has officially joined the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 competition, representing Taraba State.

Born in Soweto at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in 2001, Chidimma’s heritage is a blend of Nigerian and Mozambican roots—her father being of Igbo descent and her mother a Mozambican who has since become a naturalized South African citizen.

Her participation in the Miss South Africa pageant sparked controversy due to questions surrounding her nationality, leading to an investigation by the South African Ministry of Home Affairs.

Amid the mounting scrutiny, Chidimma chose to withdraw from the Miss South Africa contest, accepting an invitation to compete in the 2024 Miss Universe Nigeria pageant instead.
