Alhaji Ado Alhassan Doguwa, the Chairman of the Special Committee on Crude Oil Thefts in the House of Representatives, has declared that the days of rampant crude oil theft in Nigeria are numbered. He issued a stern warning that anyone caught engaging in such illegal activities will face severe legal repercussions.
Doguwa shared this strong message in a statement he personally signed and distributed to the media in Kano on Friday.
“We cannot afford to let our government, led by Tinubu/APC, continue drowning in international debt caused by the significant losses in our oil and gas sector,” he said.
He attributed the ongoing thefts to youth unrest and the unacceptable destruction of essential infrastructure by vandals and criminals operating in the creeks, asserting that this must come to an end.
The committee, established by House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, has been tasked with investigating the underlying and immediate factors contributing to the “devastating economic turmoil” plaguing the oil and gas industry.
“The committee is determined to take all necessary actions to shield the Tinubu administration from the negative impacts of these crimes in oil-producing regions. We will ensure that those responsible, along with their political allies, are held accountable,” Doguwa emphasized.
He noted that the economic fallout from these heinous acts is stifling the nation’s economy.
“President Tinubu’s dedication to securing prosperity and improving the lives of our citizens is unwavering and cannot be compromised,” he stated.
Doguwa also highlighted that the legislative agenda of the 10th National Assembly, spearheaded by the Rt. Hon. Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, will support the government’s efforts to fulfill its promises to the Nigerian populace.
