Fuel queues have reappeared in Lagos as numerous filling stations have run out of stock, forcing closures and resulting in long lines at the few stations still dispensing fuel.
According to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports on Sunday in Lagos revealed that most filling stations along Ikorodu Road were not operational.
However, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd. (NNPCL) and NIPCO stations at Fadeyi Bus-Stop, located along the same road, were open but overwhelmed with long queues.
In other areas, including Bank Anthony, only Total, Northwest, and NNPCL stations were operational, all facing similar long queues. Meanwhile, the Mobil Station at Salami Shaibu in Somolu Metropolis was closed due to disorder caused by commercial vehicles vying for fuel.
Illegal fuel hawkers were also spotted along Ikorodu Road, Maryland, Gbagada, and Ogba, capitalizing on the fuel scarcity.
Some marketers, speaking anonymously, attributed the supply shortages to NNPC Ltd.’s failure to pay importers since March. They claimed that NNPCL, being the sole importer of fuel, was responsible for the ongoing scarcity.
Frustrated motorists and commuters voiced their displeasure, as the shortage led to lengthy queues and an increase in transport fares across Lagos.
