The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has issued a stern warning to motorists against causing traffic jams while queuing for fuel at filling stations throughout the state.

In a statement released to journalists on Sunday, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the need for drivers to avoid disrupting traffic flow.

The statement was provided by Mr. Taofiq Adebayo, Director of LASTMA’s Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department.

Bakare-Oki announced that additional officers have been assigned to oversee traffic at fuel stations across Lagos.

This measure aims to address the issue of long queues and the tendency of motorists to park haphazardly, thereby obstructing roadways while waiting to buy fuel.

He expressed frustration over the chaotic behavior of some drivers who, by queuing improperly, are impeding the smooth movement of traffic around petrol stations. “The current fuel scarcity does not justify obstructing traffic in Lagos,” Bakare-Oki stated. “Our goal is to maintain clear and efficient roadways; fuel queues should not burden other road users.”

Bakare-Oki highlighted the importance of effective traffic management in achieving a seamless transportation system in Lagos. He called on the public to support the current administration’s ‘T.H.E.M.E. +’ agenda, which aims to foster positive socio-economic development and enhance public safety.

He also urged motorists to utilize LASTMA’s new toll-free call center at 080000527862 for any complaints, feedback, or commendations.
