Rangers International Football Club of Enugu secured a 1-0 crucial victory over US De Zilimadjou of Comoros in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary stages in Uyo on Sunday.

The lone goal came courtesy of Uwurimo Frank, who scored his first-ever CAF Champions League goal in the 22nd minute.

The match saw Rangers dominate possession, with Garando Tekana controlling the midfield with his impressive passing range as Saviour Isaac also put in a stellar performance, creating scoring opportunities for his teammates.

One such opportunity came in the 24th minute when Isaac set up Uwumiro, who unfortunately missed the target.

Okorie Chedozie’s effort in the 35th minute was denied by a spectacular save from the US De Zilimadjou goalkeeper.

Despite the visitors’ efforts, Rangers held on to their slim lead, securing a vital advantage ahead of the second leg.

Notably, the return fixture will take place at the same venue, Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, on Friday, August 23, due to CAF’s disapproval of US De Zilimadjou’s stadium.

Rangers will look to build on this double home advantage while US De Zilimadjou will aim to overturn the deficit in the second leg.
