In a tragic incident that occurred this afternoon, two individuals lost their lives after a NEPA pole was brought down by a heavy storm during a rainstorm.

The incident happened in the Sabo area of Abeokuta, where a container shop was affected.

The fallen electric pole reportedly struck the container shop, which caused a powerful spark that resulted in the electrocution of the shop owner and a young lady who was taking shelter from the rain. Both victims died instantly as shocked onlookers could do little to help.

Eyewitnesses recount that the incident happened within seconds, leaving residents in a state of panic and sorrow. The storm, which began with strong winds and heavy rain, uprooted the pole, causing it to crash onto the shop.

Local authorities and emergency responders were quickly alerted to the scene but arrived to confirm that both individuals were already deceased. The area was cordoned off to prevent further casualties as efforts were made to restore power safely and investigate the incident.

Residents are calling on the relevant authorities, including the power distribution company, to take immediate action in maintaining and securing electric poles and wires, especially during the rainy season when they are more vulnerable to such accidents.
