Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, urged President Bola Tinubu to clarify the details surrounding his recent trip to France.

Ibe emphasized the need for the Presidency to provide Nigerians with information about the duration of Tinubu’s stay in France and the specifics of his engagements there.

According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, the President is set to leave Abuja, the country’s capital, for France. Ngelale noted that Tinubu would return to Nigeria following a short work visit. However, the statement did not disclose the purpose of the trip.

In response, Ibe referenced the past experience with the late President Musa Yar’Adua, highlighting the importance of transparency regarding Tinubu’s journey to France.

Taking to X, Ibe posed several questions: “Could you please clarify how long President Bola Tinubu will be in France? Is this engagement open-ended? Additionally, can you shed some light on the nature of the ‘brief work’ being conducted in France, or is this information being kept under wraps?”

Ibe stressed that since the President of Nigeria is a public servant supported by the nation’s resources, it is crucial for Nigerians to be informed about his travel plans, purposes, and itineraries.

“I hope we’ve learned from the Yar’Adua experience and are dedicated to maintaining a higher level of transparency,” Ibe concluded.
