President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday praised Inspector General of Police Dr. Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his unwavering commitment to justice, peace, and security, highlighting the significant impact of these values on Nigeria’s policy landscape.
The commendation came during the launch of a book in honor of the IGP titled Readings in Policing, Peace, and Security in Abuja. President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, described the book as a well-deserved tribute to Dr. Egbetokun.
Addressing the gathering, President Tinubu said, “This book embodies the essence and aspirations of our nation’s internal security efforts. Readings in Policing, Peace, and Security is a fitting tribute to Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, our esteemed Inspector General of Police, whose dedication to justice, peace, and security has left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s policy landscape. I was honored to write the foreword for this remarkable compilation, recognizing not only the gravity of the subject but also the extraordinary individual it honors.”
He further acknowledged Dr. Egbetokun’s distinguished service as his Chief Security Officer during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, stating, “Dr. Egbetokun is a man I have had the privilege to know and work closely with. He served with distinction as my Chief Security Officer during my time as Governor of Lagos State. His integrity and professionalism are exemplary.”
President Tinubu also commended the Society for Peace Studies and Practice, along with its collaborators, for their efforts in producing the anthology. He noted that the book is a valuable resource for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners, adding, “This publication is not just timely; it is essential for the future of law enforcement in Nigeria.”
IGP Egbetokun, in his remarks, expressed deep gratitude to President Tinubu, recalling their first meeting in 1998 as a pivotal moment in his life and career. He stated, “I thank Almighty God for His infinite mercy. My life and career are testaments to His grace. Meeting President Tinubu in 1998 transformed my life within 24 hours.”
Egbetokun emphasized that the book would serve as both a reference material and a source of inspiration for young law enforcement officers. “This book is an indispensable resource for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners in policing, peace, and security. It will not only be a reference material but will also inspire the new generation of law enforcement officers in Nigeria.”
Prof. Suleiman Elias Bogoro, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Society for Peace, Studies, and Practice, also lauded the IGP, highlighting his role in elevating the Nigeria Police Force to greater heights.
