The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), the umbrella body for ICT professionals, has pledged its commitment to revamping the education sector using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. NCS President, Dr. Sirajo Aliyu, envisions a future where technology transforms the way Nigerians learn and work.

“The NCS is dedicated to harnessing the power of AI, data mining, and other cutting-edge trends to drive growth and innovation in the country,” Dr. Aliyu stated. The society plans to develop programs that address the needs of the education sector and shape the future of IT.

One area that stands to benefit greatly from NCS’ efforts is the integration of AI into tertiary institutions. By making learning more accessible, affordable, and effective, the NCS aims to revolutionize the way students acquire knowledge. Imagine online classes with readily available resources, where students can learn at their own pace, drastically reducing the cost of education and making quality learning accessible to more people.

Dr. Aliyu emphasized that with the government’s support in creating an enabling environment, harnessing AI is within the reach of the NCS. The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is already working to improve infrastructure and make broadband more affordable, with students able to access data for learning at just N100 per session. This paves the way for a future where online classes become the norm.

“Join the NCS in shaping the future of IT in Nigeria. Together, we can unlock the full potential of technology and create a brighter future for generations to come,” Dr. Aliyu urged.

During a virtual event organized by the NCS, IT experts echoed the call for revamping the Nigerian education sector. Professor Abejide Ibijola, Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Applications at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, highlighted the need for funds to build infrastructure, pay teachers well, and attract passionate and motivated people to the classrooms.

Associate Professor Salisu Abdulrahman of Kano State University of Science and Technology emphasized that AI can drive economic growth by stimulating gains from supply and demand. He suggested that business production could be driven through the existing labor force by equipping them with AI technology.

The NCS’s commitment to revolutionizing education with AI is a bold step towards addressing the challenges faced by the sector. By harnessing the power of emerging technologies, the society aims to make learning more accessible, affordable, and effective, ultimately creating a brighter future for Nigeria’s students and the nation as a whole.
