Adolphus Wabara, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urgently appealed to party stakeholders to take decisive steps to avert the disintegration of the party.

Wabara made this appeal during the inauguration of the National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees on Wednesday, stressing the importance of honesty and adherence to legal frameworks within the organization.

“The PDP must not be allowed to perish,” Wabara asserted.

His remarks followed a recent meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, where he raised alarms about the party’s potential risk of losing its stronghold in Rivers State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He cautioned that such a loss would have profound implications for Nigeria’s political landscape. Wabara commended the impartiality of the committee members and reiterated that the Board of Trustees would tackle party-related issues in strict alignment with the party’s constitution.

“We were alarmed, Sir, when we encountered rumors and perceptions suggesting that if we are not vigilant, the party could lose Rivers State. Indeed, a loss in Rivers State would signify a loss for Nigeria’s future,” he emphasized.

“We must ensure that the events of 2015 and 2023 do not repeat themselves. The individuals assembled here are truly neutral. However, as the moral compass of the party, we are obligated to uphold the rule of law. Any action taken in accordance with the rule of law cannot lead to missteps; it may be delayed, but it is never erroneous.”

Wabara further expressed gratitude, saying, “I hesitate to elaborate further, but as a Governor, I acknowledge that our former Governors present here may not have endured as much as you have. Therefore, on behalf of this party, I once again thank you for your resilience, wisdom, and continued commitment to this party.”

He concluded with a promise that under his leadership, the Board of Trustees, alongside dedicated Nigerians, would address the challenges facing the party in a constitutionally sound manner.
