• The Board of Trustees (BOT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced that they have invited Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for discussions aimed at resolving the party’s ongoing internal conflicts.

Senator Abdul Ningi, a member of the BOT, expressed concern about Wike’s dual role, highlighting that it is inappropriate for him to remain affiliated with the PDP while simultaneously supporting and empowering rival parties against the main opposition.

During an interview, Ningi elaborated on the roots of the party’s internal strife, attributing it to fallout from the recent general elections. He pointed out that some members, dissatisfied with their electoral outcomes, appear intent on undermining the party.

“The attitude of certain influential figures suggests a determination to see this party fail. The PDP does not deserve our pity, especially when some individuals did not achieve their desired results in the past elections,” he stated.

He emphasized that to be a true member of the PDP, one cannot simultaneously support other political parties or contribute to their campaigns against the PDP.

Ningi revealed that the decision to reach out to Wike followed the BOT’s meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, where they discussed the challenges facing the party in the state, which he identified Wike as contributing to.

Expressing optimism, Ningi noted that Wike has committed to staying with the PDP and fighting for its unity. “We have sent a letter to him, seeking a meeting. In our recent visit to Port Harcourt, we aimed to understand the essential support that the governor could provide to ensure the party’s survival in Rivers State.

“Our next step is to engage with the FCT minister and hold a constructive dialogue with him,” Senator Ningi concluded.
