Concerns are escalating regarding the disappearance of the anonymous Nigerian whistleblower known as PIDOM Nigeria, who has not been heard from since August 15, 2024. Investigative journalist David Hundeyin reported that PIDOM, recognized for exposing corruption and human rights abuses, may have been detained by Nigerian authorities.
Hundeyin claims PIDOM was arrested on August 5 in Port Harcourt and transferred to the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja. He suspects foul play, suggesting that PIDOM’s disappearance is linked to the government. Pro-democracy activist Omoyele Sowore has also called for PIDOM’s immediate release, warning of potential harm.
Hundeyin shared alarming details, stating that PIDOM’s social media accounts were compromised, and attempts to hack into his own accounts followed. The hashtags #FreePidom and #WhereisPidom are trending as the Nigerian online community rallies for awareness and action. The situation highlights fears about the safety of whistleblowers in Nigeria and the potential suppression of dissent by the government.
