Edo State’s Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has launched a pointed attack on the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that the party has burdened the citizens of Edo with hardship.
Speaking during a ward meeting at Ward 4 in the Oredo Local Government Area on Thursday, Obaseki characterized the APC as a deceitful entity. He urged the residents to vote against the party in the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21.
“APC’s policies have driven inflation in both Nigeria and our state, making life increasingly challenging for us. Consequently, they will never regain power here. We have approximately 16,000 individuals registered for PVCs in this ward, and thanks to the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) initiative, we’ve added nearly 1,500 more voters,” he remarked.
“There’s no talk of progress coming from them; they lack a coherent campaign strategy and are simply full of falsehoods. We must unite to thwart all their schemes. Their actions are anything but transparent.”
The governor accused the APC of severely mismanaging the nation’s economy under its central government, resulting in significant hardship for both the people of Edo and Nigerians at large.
Obaseki expressed his belief that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge victorious in the upcoming election, citing his administration’s remarkable achievements in various sectors of the state’s economy over the last eight years as a testament to the party’s capability.
“I commend you for your efforts during the voter registration exercise. I’m here to remind you to pick up your Permanent Voters Card (PVC); it’s available now.
“This election will be straightforward because you have campaigned diligently. This isn’t just about me; when I ran for election, the situation wasn’t as dire as it is today. When our people considered protesting, we advised against it, as there were ill-intentioned individuals looking to exploit the situation to damage public property. This election will serve as our protest. We will use it to assert that the APC is unwelcome in Edo State,” he concluded.
