Fifty years after graduating from the Nigerian Military School (NMS), Zaria, a group of old students have pledged to continue contributing to nation-building. During their Golden Anniversary celebration and reunion, the set of 74-79 expressed their commitment to offering solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
Colonel Alphonsus Ayim (retired), the chairman of the set, assured that the alumni would always appreciate their alma mater and continue serving the nation. He highlighted the various contributions of the set members, including senior retired officers, medical doctors, and professors, who have worked in various capacities to build Nigeria.
The set has also been supporting the NMS through donations and initiatives. They have recently set aside two million naira for a library project at the school.
Addressing his set-mates, Colonel Ayim emphasized the importance of taking care of their health and well-being as they age. He encouraged them to engage in regular medical checkups and exercises.
Major General Chris Olukolade, a former spokesman of the Nigerian military armed forces and a member of the set, expressed confidence in the continued patriotic contribution of the alumni. He said that the gathering was an opportunity to celebrate their 50th year together and their contributions to national development.
Dr. Reuben Jigah, chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, highlighted the enduring bonds of friendship among the set members. He encouraged them to reconnect, engage with each other, and cherish the time they spent together.
Professor Canice Asonye of the University of Benin delivered a lecture on health challenges associated with ageing. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a healthy diet, conducting regular medical checkups, and engaging in physical activity.
