Bauchi ACReSAL to Establish Skill Centres for PWDs , Boosts Green Business Inclusion

The Bauchi State Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project is making significant progress in empowering people with disabilities through Green Businesses across the state.

Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, the State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, shared these developments during a meeting with the State Agency for People with Disabilities on Monday. He highlighted the project’s plan to establish and rehabilitate skill acquisition centers in all 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Bauchi State, providing vital support and a sense of belonging to the physically challenged.

Dr. Kabir described this initiative as one of ACReSAL’s most impactful projects, with the potential to transform the lives of marginalized communities involved in Green Businesses. He pledged to explore every possible avenue to support these individuals.

The ACReSAL project, which has already made strides in combating climate change effects in Bauchi State, is now focusing on including the most vulnerable members of society. This inclusion will enable them to contribute to addressing environmental challenges like deforestation, drought, flooding, and broader climate impacts.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed has endorsed the establishment of dedicated centers for people with disabilities, along with a sustainability model to ensure the long-term success of this initiative.

Dr. Kabir emphasized that the ACReSAL project aims to be a cornerstone in reviving the livelihoods of people with disabilities in Bauchi State. The project will provide essential facilities and resources, tailored to address various types of disabilities, ensuring that no one is left behind. He directed the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) officers to begin implementation.

Mrs. Brica Joram Aaron, the Executive Secretary of the State Agency for People with Disabilities, described the partnership with Bauchi ACReSAL as a significant milestone. She noted that Bauchi is the only state in the Northeast with an agency dedicated to the physically challenged, having identified 31,000 people with disabilities across the state.

Mrs. Aaron praised Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammed for his commitment to the welfare of the people and acknowledged the positive impact of the ACReSAL project on both climate change mitigation and the lives of the disabled community. She called for continued collaboration and requested a field visit to assess existing centers for possible rehabilitation.

Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Barde (Bunun Duguri), the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on ACReSAL, reiterated the administration’s commitment to uplifting the lives of all citizens. He commended the inclusive nature of the initiative and the strong partnership between Bauchi ACReSAL and the Agency for People with Disabilities, pledging his full support to make the initiative a success.
