The interim government of the National association of Akwa Ibom State Students (NAAKSISS) Worldwide in strong terms has condemned the elements of autocracy leading to power tussle in the association as plans for transition have emerged.
Speaking in a National Press Conference on Monday, the Chairperson of the Interim government, Comrade Blessing Essien who addressed the press on the transition programme of the association stated clearly the originality of her led-administration as enshrined in the constitution of the association.
The interim government which seeks to produce new elected leaders for the association condemned the previous administration which attempted to overrule the constitution and override their stay in power.
She noted that the Comrade Ubong Ekwere -led administration which began on November 22, 2022 has long been overdue of its one year tenure and has been rightly dissolved by the Worldwide Parliament led by the then Speaker, Honourable Aniebiet Godwin as an interim body was set up.
Led by Comrade Reward Peters and six other executives, the interim government also failed to conduct it’s constitutional assignment within their four-month tenure which was to organise and conduct election for new officers leading to their dethronement.
It was right for the then Speaker, Comrade Aniebiet to set up a fresh interim government having witnessed their incompetence, but insisted on carrying on an Unconstitutional interim government, leading to his impeachment by the Honourable members of the Parliament.
It was on that note the new Speaker, Rt. Honourable Godwin Bassey who set up a new interim government, led by Comrade Blessing Essien emerged and are saddled with a four-month journey to conduct elections and produce new elected executives.
As part of the plan towards having a successful transition of power democratically, the interim government has outlined a series of activities to help deliver and sanitize the NAAKISS Worldwide as a student body.
Some of the activities include Campus tour, NAAKISS chapter verification and accreditation, NAAKISS rebranding programmes, NAAKISS Worldwide National conference and the elections proper.
Having October 11 to 13, 2024 as the date for the National convention and election, the sensitization programme will take place between August 27 and 30th (it has already begun) as sales of forms will take off on September the 3rd through October 3rd within a period of one month.
The electoral board screening will have its course between October 5 through October 7 before the security screening which will take place from October 8 through October 13.
