The State High Court has upheld a temporary injunction that prevents the All Progressives Congress (APC) from disbanding the Agada-led State Working Committee.
This injunction, initially granted on August 21, 2024, stops the Ganduje-led National Working Committee from proceeding with the dissolution of the State Working Committee until its current term concludes.
Justice Theresa Igoche, who issued the order against the National Working Committee, has scheduled the next hearing for August 28, 2024, to discuss the motion ex parte.
During the proceedings on Wednesday, APC’s legal representative, Yahaya D. Dangana SAN, who was accompanied by a team of seven attorneys including the State Attorney General, argued that the APC had the legal authority to dissolve the State Working Committee and filed a preliminary objection in court to that effect.
Dangana maintained that further actions in the case should be halted until the objection was resolved.
On the other hand, M.T. Alyebo, representing Agada and eight other petitioners, countered this argument, stating that the filing of a preliminary objection does not hinder the court’s ability to maintain the status quo.
Alyebo called for an extension of the interim order, a move that Dangana contested vigorously.
In her decision, Justice Igoche granted a seven-day extension of the interim order. She emphasized that the injunction was issued in the morning, whereas the committee’s dissolution took place later that same evening.
