The Arewa Youth Assembly has found itself at odds with the Coalition of Northern Youths Organization regarding demands for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss Engr. Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
This dispute arose following allegations of hazardous fuel imports into Nigeria, prompting the Coalition of Northern Youths Organization to call for the immediate removal of the NMDPRA leader.
A Group, Nigeria Citizens’ Watch for Good Governance also issued a statement, authored by its National President, Eshiofeh Collins, claiming that substandard petroleum products are being imported from Russia through Malta, blended, and shipped to Nigeria. This practice is reportedly in violation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) and poses severe health risks to the Nigerian populace.
The Coalition has threatened to occupy filling stations nationwide if an investigation is not promptly initiated by the authorities.
In contrast, the Arewa Youth Assembly has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to dismiss the calls for Engr. Ahmed’s removal.
In a statement released by their Speaker, Mohammed Danlami, they declared, “We strongly oppose the disgraceful and unpatriotic actions of this unidentified group masquerading as Northern Youths. They do not represent true Northerners but are instead criminals seeking to create chaos.”
The Assembly expressed their complete disagreement with the Coalition’s claims and distanced themselves from their actions, which they labeled as malicious.
“We implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ignore the unfounded call for the NMDPRA CEO’s dismissal, as it is baseless and lacks merit,” they asserted.
Additionally, they urged security agencies to take action against those impersonating Northern youths and attempting to smear the reputation of the NMDPRA Chief Executive Officer.
