In what is seen as a paradigm shift in Bauchi State’s political landscape ahead of 2027, the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Pharmacist Samaila Burga as its new Chairman, marking a transfer of leadership to the Bauchi South Senatorial District.

The former Principal Private Secretary (PPS) to the Governor of Bauchi State was elected unopposed by 2,549 delegates during the State Delegates Congress held at the Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu Square, Government House, despite heavy rainfall on Saturday.

The congress, which marked the conclusion of the tenure of the outgoing Executive Council led by Alhaji Hamza Koshe Akuyam, saw the election of new officials to manage the party’s affairs for the next four years. The elected officials include:

  • Pharmacist Sama’ila Burga – Chairman
  • Alhaji Falalu Attah – Deputy Chairman
  • Bakoji Aliyu Bobo – Secretary
  • Danlami Garba Abubakar – Zonal Chairman, Bauchi South
  • Sani Muhammad Burra – Zonal Chairman, Bauchi Central
  • Mustapha Mai Kwana – Zonal Chairman, Bauchi North
  • Hafsat Adamu – Treasurer
  • Garba Mundaminyo – Financial Secretary
  • Abdulkadir Alin Bababa – Organizing Secretary
  • Adamu Babayo Gabarin – Publicity Secretary
  • Babangida Maliya – Youth Leader
  • Maimuna Ahmad – Women Leader

The election results were announced by the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Ambassador Umar El-Gash, who noted that all candidates were returned unopposed. He praised the orderly conduct of the election and urged the newly elected officials to maintain transparency and accountability, adhering to the party’s guiding principles.

Ambassador El-Gash also lauded Governor Bala Mohammed’s transformative leadership in Bauchi State, highlighting the significant infrastructure and human capital developments under his administration.

He acknowledged the presence of national and state assembly members, INEC officials, and party stakeholders at the congress.

In his address to the new officials, Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his Deputy, Rt Hon Auwal Jatau, charged them to build on the achievements of their predecessors to ensure that the PDP retains its position as the ruling party in Bauchi State beyond 2027. He expressed confidence in the new leadership’s ability to deliver on their mandate.

The event, which featured voting, the announcement of results, and the administration of the oath of office and allegiance, was attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Auwal Jatau, Speaker of the House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman, Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, Senator Samaila Dahuwa, and other party stalwarts.
