As the Edo governorship election approaches on September 21, Asue Ighodalo, representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a compelling promise to enhance business opportunities and eliminate poverty if he is elected.
During a visit to the New Benin Market on Monday, Ighodalo addressed the local traders, asserting his commitment to foster prosperity for everyone in the community. He also pledged to put an end to the illegal fees imposed by certain individuals who have been a source of distress for traders.
Referring to the PDP as a guiding light, Ighodalo encouraged the traders to reject negativity and work collectively for the betterment of Edo State as the election date approaches.
“I appreciate the warm welcome from the traders, and I assure you that I will diligently strive for the advancement of your businesses and the overall prosperity of our community,” he expressed. “We embody the light in the battle against darkness. Casting your vote for the PDP means choosing goodness and integrity.”
“I will tirelessly labor until poverty is a thing of the past. Think of me as your son—like a child you nurtured through their education, now returning to support you. My goal is to bring you joy and happiness.”
Ighodalo highlighted that even regions with fewer resources than Edo have achieved significant success, and he believes that Edo can achieve similar accomplishments.
His wife, Ifeyinwa, expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and assured the traders that her husband is committed to fulfilling his promises. She also mentioned her intention to support him in distributing aprons and wrappers to the women in the market.
In the welcome address, Ero Amienghomwan, Coordinator of the New Benin Market Christian Traders Fellowship, expressed hopes that by December 1, 2024, Ighodalo would be inaugurated at Osadebey Avenue, the heart of Edo State’s governance.
Additionally, Blacky Ogiemen, President of Edo State Market Women/Traders, rallied the women to support Ighodalo, thanking them for their presence and urging them to turn out in large numbers on September 21 to vote for the PDP, symbolized by its iconic umbrella.
