Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has approved N6.43 billion for the payment of gratuities and other entitlements for retirees in the state.
Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, announced this in a statement on Wednesday in Uyo, highlighting the governor’s commitment to improving the welfare of retirees.
“The governor has pledged to regularly allocate substantial funds for the payment of gratuities and other entitlements to retirees in the state. With this latest approval, the total amount disbursed for these purposes has reached approximately N28 billion,” Udoh stated.
He reaffirmed the Eno administration’s dedication to fulfilling the promises outlined in the ARISE Agenda, emphasizing the government’s efforts to sustain infrastructure and facilities established by previous administrations.
“The current focus is on uplifting the people, enhancing their material well-being, and accelerating rural development,” he added.
Udoh also highlighted the state government’s donation of 36 fully-furnished two-bedroom apartments to indigent and vulnerable individuals, with an additional 164 units currently under construction.
The goal is to hand over 200 housing units during the administration’s second year in office and to deliver a total of 400 units to vulnerable families by the end of the governor’s tenure.
Furthermore, 150 housing units at Grace Homes Estate are set to be distributed to civil servants on Grade Levels 1 to 8.
Udoh mentioned that through the ARISE Elderly Care Initiatives, 600 elders across the state’s 368 wards receive N50,000 monthly.
He concluded by emphasizing the Eno administration’s commitment to the prudent use of resources for the betterment of the people.
