The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully secured the conviction and sentencing of 39 internet fraudsters, an official announced on Wednesday.

According to a statement issued by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the fraudsters were prosecuted at the Oyo State High Court, each facing a separate one-count charge.

The charges against them included impersonation, cheating, possession of fraudulent documents, and obtaining money under pretences.

Justice O.S. Adeyemi, Justice Bayo Taiwo, and Justice Ladiran Akintola presided over the separate trials. After the accused individuals pleaded guilty, they were sentenced to various terms, ranging from one month to one year of community service.

Additionally, the convicts were given the option to pay fines ranging from ₦30,000 to ₦250,000. All items recovered from them, including cars, were ordered to be forfeited to the Federal Government.
