Members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have raised alarms over what they allege to be a calculated scheme by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), aimed at undermining the party’s prospects in the upcoming Edo governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

These accusations indicate that Wike is purportedly colluding with Senator Adams Oshiomhole and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to facilitate a win for the APC in the forthcoming election.

Sources within the PDP hierarchy have expressed deep apprehension regarding Wike’s commitment to the party, particularly due to his significant influence in opposition circles.

The NWC claims to have credible information suggesting that Wike is allegedly diverting funds to support the APC campaign via the Dan Orbih-led faction of the PDP in Edo, an action that is being denounced as a betrayal of party loyalty.

One NWC official, who chose to remain unnamed, remarked, “We possess substantial proof that Wike is not just hindering the PDP’s initiatives in Edo State but is also actively backing the opposition.”

“This represents a blatant case of anti-party conduct, and we cannot allow it to go unpunished. The party’s disciplinary committee has already summoned Wike to address these serious allegations.”

Tensions surrounding Wike’s purported actions have intensified within the PDP, with increasing calls for his suspension. Insiders argue that his ongoing affiliation with the PDP, while allegedly working against its objectives, is no longer sustainable.

“There is a growing agreement within the NWC that Wike must face consequences for his actions. If verified, this behavior poses a direct threat to the PDP’s cohesion and success,” another party leader commented.

Complicating matters further is Wike’s long-standing rivalry with prominent members of the PDP, particularly following his defeat in the party’s presidential primary. His recent appointment as FCT Minister has also sparked speculation about his true political loyalties.

Wike’s alleged alliance with Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State and a key figure in the APC, is particularly alarming for PDP leadership.

“The NWC will not hesitate to take firm action against anyone found to be acting against the party’s interests, irrespective of their status or influence. Upholding the integrity of the PDP and its dedication to democracy is paramount,” the NWC source emphasized.

In the coming days, the PDP leadership is anticipated to release an official statement addressing these serious accusations and detailing the measures it plans to take in response to the situation.
