On Wednesday, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, along with his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, joined several members from the National and State Houses of Assembly for a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting orchestrated by Governor Alex Otti.

This gathering took place in the Banquet Hall of the Abia State Government House in Umuahia, although it was notably snubbed by the party’s National Chairman, Mr. Julius Abure.

In attendance were Governor Otti, Deputy Ikechuckwu Emetu, and Labour Party National Assembly members, including Senator Victor Umeh and Obi Aguocha, as well as various State House Assembly representatives.

The former Labour Party governorship candidate in Imo, Athan Achonu, along with other past governorship candidates, also participated.

Abure’s absence was anticipated due to his resistance to the meeting in Umuahia.

During this gathering, the former Minister of Finance, Nenadi Usman, was appointed as the Chairperson of a newly formed 29-member Caretaker Committee, tasked with steering the party’s activities and ensuring electoral success. Darlington Nwokocha was designated as the Secretary of this committee.

Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Otti on Media and Publicity, characterized the meeting and the appointments as a substantial achievement for the party.
