Edozie Njoku, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has sent a clear and urgent message to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, signalling that his patience is dwindling.
During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Chief Njoku emphasized that while there is still a chance for reconciliation, it hinges on Soludo’s willingness to engage in dialogue.
The ongoing problems within the ruling party in Anambra show no signs of resolution, despite numerous court rulings affirming Njoku’s leadership. The faction led by Sylvester Ezeokenwa has sought the Appeal Court’s intervention, aiming to halt the execution of a judgment that mandates the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize Njoku as the legitimate National Chairman of APGA.
However, their appeal was dismissed on Thursday, with the court reaffirming Njoku’s rightful position.
In his address, Njoku cautioned Soludo and his allies that they were running out of time and must act quickly to restore peace within the party. “A narrative was spun suggesting that new facts could overturn my position. They propagated this story so vigorously that any unfavourable outcome would be attributed to alleged misconduct on my part,” he stated.
“They spread rumours through various media outlets, attempting to undermine the clear judgment rendered by the Court of Appeal. They even sought to challenge INEC’s recognition of me as chairman, hoping to gain a stay of execution,” Njoku elaborated.
He continued, “While anyone has the right to appeal to the Supreme Court if dissatisfied with a ruling, their attempts to stay the Court of Appeal’s judgment based on claims of fraud are nothing short of dishonest.
“There’s been no substantial argument from them. We’ve brought this matter to the Supreme Court, which has made its stance clear. The lower courts have acted within their rights, and the Court of Appeal has upheld these decisions. Yet, they persist in sowing discord and attempting to hinder our party’s progress.
“It’s evident that the governor is expending considerable effort to challenge my recognition by INEC, yet my position is legally secured. I emerged victorious at the Owerri convention, and any attempt to remove me must counter this fact.
“They’ve tried everything to oust me, but with divine support and the truth on our side, their efforts are ultimately futile.”
