Nigerian singer Shallipopi has urged fellow artists to charge fees that align with their value and the success of their music.

Addressing the ongoing debate over high fees charged by Nigerian musicians, Shallipopi shared his perspective during an interview with News Central TV.

The artist emphasized that pricing should be directly linked to an artist’s reach and the impact of their music.

He refuted claims that Nigerian artists have priced themselves out of the local market, stating that those who achieve the same streaming numbers as their American counterparts should charge accordingly.

“It depends on your music and where it has gotten, that is what your price is going to be,” Shallipopi explained.

“If your music has gotten the same stream as an American artiste, you should be charging the same way they charge but if it is not up to that, you cannot overcharge,” he added.

Shallipopi’s remarks add to the ongoing conversation around the evolving landscape of the Nigerian music industry, particularly in terms of how artists value their work.
