In response to the ongoing economic challenges, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has approved a work-from-home arrangement for civil servants to alleviate the burden on workers.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Yinka Oyebode, announced this in a statement on Friday, highlighting the initiative as part of the government’s efforts to cushion the impact of the economic situation on state employees.
Under the new arrangement, which takes effect on Monday, September 9, 2024, civil servants on grade levels 01 to 07 will work from home three days a week, those on levels 08 to 12 will work remotely two days a week, while officers on levels 13 to 17 will work from home once a week.
However, the directive excludes essential workers such as teachers, healthcare professionals in hospitals, and security personnel.
The statement further noted that each ministry, department, and agency (MDA) is required to develop a practical schedule for its staff to ensure that service delivery is not compromised during the work-from-home period.
“The arrangement will be in place for two months and is subject to periodic review based on prevailing conditions,” the statement read. It also clarified that the initiative does not affect other palliative measures already introduced by the state government, including a monthly wage award for workers and pensioners, as well as free bus services for workers and students.
Governor Oyebanji’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to workers’ welfare, pledging to continue implementing measures that will enhance productivity and mitigate the effects of the current economic situation.
