As the governorship elections in Edo State draw near on September 21, Hon. Tokunbo Paul Ayanlola, a prominent figure in the Labour Party from Lagos State, has fervently appealed to the electorate to support his party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata.
In an open letter shared with Daily Independent on Friday, Hon. Ayanlola highlighted Akpata’s qualifications, asserting that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) has the vision and capability to elevate the state to new heights.
He emphasized that Akpata’s record of accomplishments and his character as a principled individual set him apart from candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), whose backgrounds are marred by conflict and unfulfilled commitments.
Hon. Ayanlola’s letter stated: “Dear citizens of Edo, we stand at a crucial juncture in our state’s journey, and the responsibility to forge our destiny rests with us.
“This forthcoming election is not merely procedural; it represents a chance to guide Edo State towards a future marked by progress, fairness, and sustainable growth.
“I introduce to you Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party candidate who is the embodiment of the transformation we urgently require. He is a man of honor with a distinguished history of leadership and commitment to service.
“Akpata has consistently championed justice, equality, and the upliftment of the average citizen.
“His leadership as the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) demonstrated his dedication to integrity, accountability, and the rule of law—principles he is eager to instill in governance.
“Olumide Akpata is not merely another politician; he is a forward-thinking leader who comprehends the distinct challenges faced by Edo State.
“His agenda is well-defined, focusing on job creation, revitalizing education, enhancing security, and cultivating a business-friendly atmosphere.
“He is devoted to unlocking the potential of our youth, empowering women, and ensuring that every citizen of Edo experiences the benefits of effective governance.
“The Labour Party envisions an Edo State where no one is marginalized. With Akpata at the helm, we can forge a state filled with opportunities for all, where our infrastructure meets our needs, and where governance is genuinely by and for the people.
“On election day, I implore you to cast your vote for Olumide Akpata. Let us choose a future where Edo State shines as a model of progress and effective governance.
“Let us elect a leader who will not only lead but will also listen, act, and fulfill his commitments. Vote for the Labour Party. Vote for Olumide Akpata. Together, let’s make Edo great!”
