A UK-based education technology (EdTech) advocacy startup, Transition School, has emphasized the transformative potential of EdTech in addressing Nigeria’s educational challenges. Speaking at a roundtable talk, co-founder Mahmood Owolabi stressed that EdTech provides scalable solutions to bridge gaps in resources and access, crucial for Nigeria to meet the needs of its growing student population.

Owolabi highlighted the benefits of EdTech, including personalized learning experiences, accessibility, and affordability, especially for students in underserved regions. He noted that Nigeria’s education sector has been unstable due to limited resources and emphasized the need for EdTech integration to equip young Nigerians with the skills necessary for the future.

Despite challenges like the digital divide, with only 27% of sub-Saharan Africa having internet access, Owolabi is optimistic about Nigeria’s future in education. He called for investments in building robust digital infrastructure and ensuring equitable internet access for all students.

Existing initiatives like Edukoya and ULesson platforms have already made significant strides in offering accessible education. Owolabi believes that with the right investments and strategic partnerships, Nigeria can make a giant leap forward, and EdTech will be pivotal in securing the country’s educational future.

Transition School underscores the potential of EdTech in bridging Nigeria’s educational divide, emphasizing its scalability, accessibility, and affordability. With the right investments and partnerships, EdTech can ensure inclusive growth across the continent.
