Earlier today, chaos erupted in the Onikoko area of Abeokuta, Ogun State, when a church building partially collapsed during a Sunday service.
The incident occurred at the House of Favour Assembly International Church around 10:30 a.m. as worshippers gathered for the morning service.
Eyewitnesses reported that the structure showed visible cracks earlier in the day, but the service went on as scheduled. During the sermon, part of the roof gave way, sending debris crashing onto the congregation. Panic ensued as members scrambled for safety.
Emergency services were called immediately, and rescue operations began shortly after. Several worshippers sustained injuries, with some rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported at the time of this report.
Local authorities and building experts are currently investigating the cause of the collapse, with early speculations suggesting structural weaknesses and poor maintenance as possible reasons.
