In light of the recent recommendations from the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, has urged the ACF to lend their support to President Bola Tinubu in his initiatives to combat insecurity in the northern region.
Speaking to journalists yesterday in Kano, Kwankwaso acknowledged the ACF’s recommendations but emphasized that the Tinubu administration has already begun to achieve significant progress in the ongoing battle against terrorism.
It’s worth noting that the ACF has called for an end to insecurity in the north, suggesting that unconventional strategies be employed in the fight against terrorists, addressing the moral crises in the region, and utilizing methods similar to the Joint Task Force (JTF) previously implemented in the north.
Kwankwaso highlighted recent successes reported by Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, who indicated that 152 terrorists have been eliminated, 109 apprehended, and 91 individuals rescued from kidnappers in Katsina and Kaduna states following a strategic relocation of his team to Sokoto.
“The recent actions taken by the administration, particularly by the Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa, represent a significant advancement in our efforts against insecurity,” he remarked.
He urged northern citizens to unite in support of President Tinubu to ensure the success of these initiatives, expressing optimism that there is hope on the horizon based on current developments.
Additionally, Kwankwaso noted that the Nigerian authorities in the Niger Republic are contemplating measures to bolster border security with Nigeria to prevent the influx of terrorists, further underscoring the urgency of the situation.
