Hon Abbas Tajudeen, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has expressed deep concern over the devastating floods that struck Maiduguri, Borno State, following heavy rainfall that caused the collapse of the Alao Dam.

The flood, which occurred between Monday and Tuesday, severely impacted large parts of the city, including key locations such as the palace of the Shehu of Borno. Thousands of residents were displaced as the floodwaters swept through the area.

Reacting to the disaster on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas called for immediate action to address the aftermath and provide relief to those affected. He emphasized the need for a coordinated response from government agencies tasked with handling emergency situations.

“I am deeply troubled by the news of the severe flooding in Maiduguri. This is a serious issue that demands the attention and concern of every Nigerian,” Abbas stated. “My thoughts and prayers are with the people and the government of Borno State as they face this difficult time. I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the residents of Maiduguri.”

The Speaker urged relevant government agencies to act swiftly, stressing the importance of providing aid to displaced individuals and working to mitigate the damage caused by the floods.

Abbas also issued a caution to residents of other cities where weather forecasts predict further flooding, encouraging them to heed warnings and take necessary precautions in the coming days.
